MEDIA WEEK 2026

Human

The Detectives of Information

Faced with advertising, images, news stories and social media content, children aged 8 to 10 share their spontaneous reactions and questions. Guided by an off-screen facilitator, they learn how to distinguish information from promotion, identify misleading images and fake news, question sources, stereotypes and the power of influencers, and protect their privacy online. A playful educational series providing young viewers with practical tools to think critically about the media they consume.

A flying elephant, a man running on water, a strange creature... Sometimes fake news looks real. So how do you tell fact from fiction? We'll explain it all to you.

Calling yourself a media outlet — a source of information — doesn't mean the news is true. You always have to ask where the info comes from, who published it... and how we actually know it's real.

On social media, influencers post videos. The bigger their audience — their "community" — the more money they make from the brands they partner with. When it comes down to it, it’s just advertising... and you shouldn't believe everything it tells you.

To spot an ad, you have to play detective and look for clues: the logo, the brand name, tempting visuals, or words like "best" or "new." News, on the other hand, is there to describe what is actually happening, in Switzerland or around the world.

On the internet, you really have to be careful with what you see. Images that look real are sometimes retouched or cropped to show only part of reality. You can even create a video of someone who doesn't even exist!

An algorithm's job is to analyze what you watch or listen to online so it can suggest other videos you'll like. Why? To keep you watching for longer. The problem is, you end up seeing the exact same things over and over again.

Words, images, and music are never chosen by accident — they're picked to stir up your emotions. Whether in advertising or the news, the goal is always the same: to grab your attention.

Your privacy is like a treasure chest where you can hide valuable things like your name, address, photo, and more. This information belongs to you, and no one can use it without your permission.

If you're a girl, you must love pink and dolls. A boy? Blue and soccer! But that's just wrong. That's what we call a cliché, or a stereotype. After all, plenty of girls love soccer, and plenty of boys like pink. And why not?

Can you change people's behavior without them even realizing it? It sounds impossible, and yet... On social media, for example, everything is designed to keep you hooked for as long as possible. Here's how it works.
